The Elements of a Successful Informed Consent Video

Great presentation, thanks! Useful to staff involved in obtaining consent, and to researchers too when designing participant information sheets and consent form. Comes handy too to adopt in the current informed consent bursary project when getting consent from participants. Will sure refer to it too when developing our institutional standard operating procedures in informed consent.

Still, I noted that the issue of having a witness at the end of the conversation to sign the consent form is something not commonly done in our setting where the participant is literate. We have an impartial witness for subjects who cannot read or write. Shouldn't the investigator sign the consent form given that he was the one who discussed the trial with the participant?

I agree with the elements of informed consent discussed but would also add about results dissemination and include any costs participant would incur from attending the trial. These areas seem not to have been covered in the discussion.

Hi Neema. Allow me to join the rest in congratulating you in getting approval..re-consenting video..I find it extremely useful in training staff about consenting. I got consent from Dinna:-)) to use it as a training resource and it been so useful...i can confidently recommend it to anyone wishing to training staff about consenting...very nice indeed.
